Steve Johnston is a startup investor, entrepreneur, and strategic advisor focused on the intersection of technology, government, and political risk.
He is a Venture Partner at Pioneer Fund and a Super Angel Partner with Alumni Ventures, in addition to investing independently in early-stage technology companies. He also advises founders and companies on strategy and growth, as well as opportunities at the intersection of technology and government.
Previously, Steve co-founded GovPredict, a B2B SaaS company backed by Y Combinator that was acquired in 2020. Earlier in his career, he held roles at Google and Quora and worked in and around government and politics, including serving as a digital advisor to the Majority Leader in Congress and working on Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
His work has been recognized by Campaigns & Elections’ “Rising Stars” and the American Association of Political Consultants’ “40 Under 40,” and Politico has called him a “digital guru.”
Steve received his A.B. in Government from Harvard University and his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
